Broos gets Springbok boost for Bafana’s World Cup hopes
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is looking beyond the football pitch for inspiration as his team prepares for crucial World Cup qualifiers.
Broos revealed he recently met with Springboks rugby coach Rassie Erasmus, eager to pick the brain of the 2019 Rugby World Cup winner.
“It was a very nice meeting,” Broos said.
“We agreed that we will see each other in the future to discuss how I manage a team, how he manages a team… I was very happy to meet him.”
Broos even received an invitation to observe Springbok training sessions, highlighting a unique collaboration between South African sporting codes.
This comes as Bafana Bafana enter a crucial training camp ahead of matches against Lesotho and Benin.
Maximum points from these two games would significantly boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
South Africa currently sits level on points with Rwanda and Benin in Group C, although Rwanda holds a slight edge in the standings.
Broos expressed his excitement about learning from Erasmus’s experience, hoping to translate some of that rugby success to the football field.
